ASAE & The Center Continues to Offer Scholarships for Annual Meeting WASHINGTON—As the economy continues taking its toll on the association community, with many organizations cutting budgets and long-distance travel, ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership is ready to again step in and help association and nonprofit professionals attend its annual event, held in Los Angeles, August 21-24. In partnership with ASAE-Endorsed Business Solutions Partners, the Member Assist program offers 30 scholarships for small-staff C-level association executives. In addition, 30 association executives from other levels are eligible to apply for the scholarship to attend the event. All applications must be received by June 4, 2010. For more information, visit www.asaecenter.org/MemberAssist. “We all take pride in this flagship event and want to make sure that association and nonprofit professionals from organizations impacted the most by the down economy can join us this year,” said ASAE & The Center President and CEO John H. Graham IV, CAE. “We’re fortunate to continue our scholarship program and offer 60 scholarships this year. The smaller organizations are often the ones affected the most by the down economy, and we want to make sure representatives from these organizations are able to engage with us at this important event.” This year's event features more than 120 Learning Lab sessions focused on association and nonprofit management; presentations by world-renown Thought Leaders such as Bob Rosen, Ph.D., an internationally recognized psychologist, bestselling author and CEO of Healthy Companies International; Janine Driver, the founder, president and lead instructor for the Body Language Institute and a recognized international communications expert, published author and popular media guest; and Jeffrey Zaslow, best-selling author and columnists. The two General Sessions will feature experts Bill George and Marshall Goldsmith. Bill George, management practice professor at the Harvard Business School, will keynote the opening general session, August 22. He is the author of 7 Lessons for Leading in Crisis as well as True North: Discover Your Authentic Leadership, Finding Your True North: A Personal Guide and Authentic Leadership: Rediscovering the Secrets of Creating Lasting Value. George has been named one of the “Top 25 Business Leaders of the Past 25 Years” by PBS, “Executive of the Year–2001” by the Academy of Management, and “Director of the Year– 2001-02” by the National Association of Corporate Directors. In his presentation, George will share seven lessons that leaders can develop the strength and vision to lead through and emerge from crisis. Marshall Goldsmith will present at the Closing General Session, Tuesday, August 24. Goldsmith is corporate America’s preeminent executive coach who has worked with more than sixty CEOs at the world’s leading corporations. He was named one of the five most respected executive coaches by Forbes, a top-ten executive educator by The Wall Street Journal, one of the most credible thought leaders in the new era of business by The Economist, and one of the most influential practitioners in the history of leadership development by BusinessWeek. In this session, Marshall Goldsmith will discuss how, in a difficult economy, nothing could be more valuable than recapturing the momentum-building energy of tangible success. In addition to the numerous networking events and receptions, the meeting will open with a performance by award-winning songstress Melissa Etheridge, winner of two GRAMMYs, a JUNO Award and an Academy Award. The meeting will conclude with an award-winning recording artist and Broadway star Cyndi Lauper, who has been nominated for 13 GRAMMY Awards, two American Music Awards, two Emmy Awards and 18 MTV Awards.
