General Information
Program Description
Please note: Participants must register for this program by August 17, 2010 to guarantee on-time delivery of participant materials. Welcome to Membership Boot Camp! This course has been developed to assist self-directed learners in their exploration of the basic principles in association membership marketing, services, and operations. In short, you will have access to the tools you'll need to describe the needs of your members, define the outside influencers that impact your members' connection with your organization and recognize the differences between your association's strategic plan and membership marketing plan. During each of the six weeks, your knowledge will expand on the important elements of the needs of your membership. And, because learning is an active process that includes gaining information and applying it to specific situations in a competent manner, we have included assignments and scenarios that can be applied to your work environment. Join us as we engage in discussion about the member experience and basic training for membership success! Designed for new membership staff, regardless of level, as well as association leaders, Membership Boot Camp provides a foundation for developing strong membership programs. In addition to the fundamentals of research, marketing and retention, this course provides a framework for thinking about what motivates people to join associations in today's rapidly changing competitive environment. Testimonials! "Membership Boot Camp has been a "wild ride"! Taking the course has provided me the opportunity to really focus on membership marketing. The reading assignments, writing assignments, interaction with fellow class participants, and comments from instructors provided the framework to really think about what we were doing, why we were doing it and to think about new ways of accomplishing our goals. Thanks to all!" Carol Neiman, Alexandria, VA, associate executive director for membership and meetings, American Counseling Association "I really enjoyed and professionally benefited from my first class with ASAE & The Center. So much so that the experience keeps me coming back for myself and AACP. It is the sharing of ideas between participants and faculty that leads to application that makes this experience unique! The tools and the facilitation were well designed, and overall well assembled, and are also very fascinating. This experience is very different from any other I have had in the past. This is something I could get use to. It is amazing, and I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to learn, and wants to do it on their own time at their own pace. I like the communication process." Angie Edwards, Alexandria, VA, member services associate, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Working at your own pace… and on your own time! Course Name:

Course Operation and Explanation:
We inform potential participants that the course is equivalent to a three-credit college course that follows similar workloads and completion requirements (there is a start and end date). Participants can expect to receive five modules of instruction; one lesson per week for the first five weeks while the sixth week is a review. Each week consists of readings, discussions, and assignments, but no tests or quizzes. The assignments take participants step-by-step through the learning process and thereby can integrate their acquired knowledge into their workplace. Although the curriculum schedule is set and followed by the faculty, participants may complete their assignments by either following the recommended schedule, by working ahead, or by catching up. The beauty of this course is that participants can access it as often or as little as desired. And, as long as all assignments are completed by the last facilitation date of the course, participants will receive their certificate of completion. As a reminder, what one puts into the course, one gets out of it. The course is assigned with two facilitators that will initiate weekly discussions as well as hold a minimum of one live online meeting each week to further the dialogue. The online meeting is not mandatory, but recommended (an online transcript is available for non attendees). During the six weeks, participants will communicate with one another through the discussion forums to discuss the topics, assignments and readings. Participants can expect frequent feedback from the facilitators and fellow course participants throughout the six weeks. Designed to be very interactive and engaging, participants can expect continuous communication each week. Minimum Course Requirements:
- Each week contains pre-developed discussion questions; participants must post a minimum of two discussions within the weekly discussion question area of his/her choosing
